CompX eLock – Cabinet Version

The CompX eLock is a device that provides access control with audit trail capabilities and/or temperature monitoring (if needed) for a variety of applications — drug & supply cabinets, refrigerators and freezers, ultra-low freezers, incubators, patient and personnel records cabinets, key control cabinets, hazardous material storage, tool storage, evidence lockers and anywhere else access control is needed or required.

CompX eLock can be installed on most existing, or new, cabinet doors and drawers, and does not require external power. All eLock models are designed to operate on battery power with an option for direct power via a 9V wall adaptor. The cabinet version has three components — eLock controller, battery pack and latch — eLock controller mounts directly on the outside of the cabinet door or drawer, while the battery pack and latch are mounted inside.

CompX eLock is unique from most locking devices. It is a keyless system — there are NO keys to lose or share. The eLocks can be programmed to read facility’s existing employee identification cards using HID proximity, HID iCLASS proximity card credentials.

Using existing identification cards eliminates the need to buy new cards. However, for facilities that do not have a compatible credential system, eLocks can be programmed with personal identification numbers (PIN). No matter what access mode is used, eLock makes securing valuables easy. Since the latch is a spring bolt, simply close the door, and the motor-driven latch provides the convenience and security of automatic relocking.

Another indispensable feature of eLock is the ability to produce an audit trail (through LockView software). An audit trail report will provide information on when an individual was allowed or denied access – providing accountability and complete access control. LockView also allows the administrator to add, edit, view and delete users/eLocks, assign access rights, create user groups and create time-based access restrictions. The presence of a reliable and easy-to-follow audit trail is an indicator of good internal controls instituted by an organization.

  • The network function allows two-way (eLock and LockView 5) communication on existing network systems either by 802.11g wireless or Ethernet connection; proprietary access points, repeaters or other infrastructure alterations are not required. The transmission of eLock access data (audit trail) occurs wirelessly from the eLock to a facility’s wireless access point (i.e. router), where the information is then delivered to the network server. LockServ, a module of LockView 5 software, resides on the network and directs information from the server to LockView for processing. Information from LockView to the eLock will follow the reverse path, enabling two-way communication while utilizing familiar security encryption methods; WEP 64-key, WEP 128-key, WPA-PSK (TKIP), WPA2-PSK (AES) and other enterprise-class wireless security. An average data transfer of four (4) user changes and twenty-five (25) audit trail events is around 20 KB. As a means of comparison, this is equal to the size of a small email message.

LockView (sold separately) is software developed by CompX that works with all versions of CompX eLock. LockView 5/5Pro is used with any 300, 200 Series or 150 Series eLocks; cabinet or refrigerator / freezer, networked or non-networked. Administrators can establish a database of users and a database of eLocks, manage temperature monitoring data, view audit trail logs, alarming parameters, and notification alerts. LockView 5Pro is easy to use, with many programmable options, and can be used to update all eLocks through a facility’s existing Wi-Fi or Ethernet infrastructure (300 Series).
